About Me

The endless flat horizon of the Lincolnshire Fens was the backdrop to my early years, growing up in Boston, with its famous “Stump” providing a contrasting vertical. Life outside the county beckoned when I left school and won out for a few years, but the lure of the Shire was strong and I am now once again rooted in my home county – this time in the rolling bosom and natural beauty of the Lincolnshire Wolds.

Never trained as an artist, I am completely self-taught and have explored many and varied media and techniques – watercolour, acrylic on textured surfaces, wood – shaped, polished, enhanced with pyrography, combined with found objects or wire sculptures, carved cement, papier-mâché, mosaic. Am I still searching for a style and medium that suits me? No! It is just that I refuse to become defined by a single style and will always follow my inspiration and ideas, whatever form they take. I have been inspired by various modern artists, but it is the variety of style in his work that still makes me choose Picasso as my favourite, a man willing to reinvent himself and produce something completely different to what he had been successfully selling.
